Smig AKA Guy Sebbag

Smig comes from the old French term meaning minimum salary.

I was J.GER at this time

I grew up in Paris and today I’m based in Tel-Aviv Israel who I was born in. I discovered the graffiti around 1986 in the streets of Paris and fell in love with the power, the colors, the typography, the different styles, the creativity and the courage of these guys. On top of that, I loved that it was only a part of the big thing called Hip-Hop. A few years later I started sketching, tagging and make graffiti alone and with friends. In fact, I started drawing at the age of 10 and since never really stopped.
At the age of 18 I wanted to study fashion design but finally decided to learn Visual communication in Paris.

1992, I immigrated to Israel and made my military service. 1995, I started my acrylic paintings on big canvas format. The style was inspired by Pop art and graffiti style. At this time the graffiti scene in Israel didn’t really existed. Around 2000 it was easy to be commissioned, I did a one page website with the word graffiti in Hebrew and Boom, I was first ranked in google. Today it’s not so easy…
In the same time I began working as an online graphic designer in the web and advertising industry.

In 2008, I quit my job and decided to make it! I opened an independent street artist store – most likely, the first of its kind in Israel. It was a small store but in 2009 Time Out Tel Aviv magazine decided that it’s a part of the “best new stores” in in Tel-Aviv. That was a dream come true but beside of this comes all the business and management aspects. I didn’t know anything and I was alone. In top of that 3 months after the opening started the big crash of 2008... People were afraid to spend their money especially in a niche artJ. It was a good experience but not enough money to survive. I closed in 2010 and returned to the online graphic design industry.

I made some street art in Tel-Aviv (mainly wheat paste), participated in few collective exhibitions, also wall painted for bars, restaurants, individual homes and stores such as the Israeli Nike Store or the famous BBDO advertising agency. Some works was shown on many prime-time television shows such as, the Israeli television series "Beauty and the Geek".

2016, like JP Gaultier in the past and few other artists I was fascinated by the Jewish orthodox style.

I started drawing modern Judaica art by combining the Jewish Orthodox silhouette, fashion and my previous works. One year later I decided to open an online shop and sell my works online. Let’s see what happens..:)
From time to time I’ll upload new stuff on the website but I mainly via newsletters and social media..
